Data Engineer
About the job Yuki is a Tel Aviv startup building the query control plane for data platforms, helping data teams run their analytics workloads faster and at lower cost. It runs on Snowflake and BigQuery today and is expanding to Apache Iceberg and open-source engines. Our customers include Zendesk, Tenable and Angel Studios, and we are backed by Hyperwise Ventures, VelocitX, Tal Ventures and Fresh.Fund. What you'll do Work at the core of the product. Partner with the engineers building the query router, and design its datasets and data contracts. Optimize cost and performance. Analyze query plans and profiles, tune clustering, partitioning and warehouse sizing, and resolve cost and performance bottlenecks across Snowflake and BigQuery. Own the data warehouse. Build and run the ingestion pipelines that bring data from every connected platform into the warehouse, serving both the product and analytics. Design the dimensional model. Star schemas with facts, conformed dimensions and slowly changing dimensions, built in dbt with incremental models that stay correct under backfills and late data. Own the semantic layer and BI. Define each metric once in the dbt semantic layer, publish curated data sources to Tableau, and build the dashboards and reports that customers and our own team rely on. Run it in production. Python services and Temporal workflows on Kubernetes, CI/CD, data quality tests and freshness SLAs on pipelines that serve customers every hour. What you'll bring 3+ years in data engineering, with production experience on at least two of Snowflake, BigQuery and Databricks. Query engine internals. You analyze query plans and query profiles to explain why a query is slow or expensive. You understand pruning, partitioning, join strategies and spill. Apache Iceberg, hands on, including catalogs and several engines sharing the same table. Delta Lake experience also counts. Python and SQL in production. Pipelines you built and ran with dbt and an orchestrator such as Temporal, Airflow or Dagster. Data modeling. Dimensional modeling, incremental models that stay correct under backfills and late data, a semantic layer, and dashboards in a BI tool such as Tableau. Comfort with open problems. You read engine docs and source code, run the experiment, and ship a first version when no one has written the playbook. Bonus points Hands on with open-source query engines such as DuckDB, StarRocks, Trino, Spark or DataFusion. Contributions to open-source data projects such as Iceberg, Arrow, DuckDB or Trino. Iceberg REST catalogs (Polaris, Unity, Glue) and credential vending. SQL dialect translation or query rewriting with sqlglot or Calcite. Experience at a data platform company such as Snowflake, Databricks or dbt Labs, or at a consultancy delivering data platforms for several clients. Early-stage startup experience. Why this role Data is the product at Yuki. What you build goes straight into what customers use and pay for. We are early, so you get real ownership. You will shape the data platform from the ground up, see your decisions reach production, and grow with the company. You will work with a talented, fun and collaborative team, led by visionary founders. Send your CV to - careers@yukidata.com
