Senior Computing DevOps Manager
Applied Materials’ Computing Delivery Engineering group is responsible for end-to-end computing infrastructure for semiconductor manufacturing tools. Each tool is accompanied by a dedicated mini data center — ranging from 3 to 30 hosts — that must be provisioned and configured from bare metal to fully operational state. These systems, which include compute hosts, network elements, storage, and firewalls, operate in air-gapped environments at integrator and customer sites with no dependency on cloud services. We are seeking an experienced and highly capable DevOps Manager to own and drive all CI/CD processes, tooling, and infrastructure that support a cross-functional development organization of approximately 40 engineers (25 developers and 15 system qualification engineers). The successful candidate will combine deep hands-on technical expertise with strong leadership skills, serving as the definitive authority for DevOps strategy and execution within the group. Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership & Hands-On Engineering (60%) * Research, design, implement, and continuously improve end-to-end CI/CD pipelines that support Windows (PowerShell) and Linux (Ansible) based development workflows. * Architect and maintain automated provisioning pipelines from bare-metal host initialization through full system configuration and readiness validation. * Design DevOps processes and tooling for air-gapped deployment scenarios, ensuring the full system stack can be delivered and operated independently at integrator and customer sites without cloud connectivity. * Drive infrastructure-as-code practices across all compute, network, storage, and firewall elements within the tool’s embedded data center. * Define and enforce pipeline standards, testing gates, code quality checks, and release management processes across the engineering organization. * Evaluate emerging DevOps technologies and recommend adoption of tools and methodologies that improve efficiency, reliability, and delivery velocity. * Collaborate closely with development and system qualification engineers to understand requirements and translate them into scalable DevOps solutions. People Management & Leadership (40%) * Lead, mentor, and develop a geographically distributed team of 6 DevOps engineers across Israel and India, fostering a high-performance and collaborative culture. * Set clear goals and performance expectations; conduct regular one-on-ones and performance reviews. * Drive alignment and effective communication across time zones; travel to India 3–4 times per year for 1–2 weeks per visit to strengthen team cohesion and deliver on-site leadership. * Partner with development managers and QA leadership to prioritize DevOps investments that maximize impact on delivery timelines and product quality. * Recruit, onboard, and retain top DevOps talent; build a team roadmap that scales with organizational growth. Qualifications Required * Academic degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field. * 5–10 years of progressive DevOps or infrastructure engineering experience, with deep expertise across the full DevOps toolchain. * Minimum 5 years of direct people management experience, including management of distributed or remote teams. * Expert-level proficiency with CI/CD platforms (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps) and pipeline design. * Strong hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code and configuration management tools, including Ansible and PowerShell DSC/scripting. * Solid understanding of bare-metal provisioning, OS imaging, and host lifecycle management (PXE boot, Kickstart, WinPE, or equivalent). * Proven experience designing and operating systems in air-gapped or highly restricted network environments. * Expertise in version control systems (Git) and branching strategies; familiarity with artifact management platforms (e.g., Nexus, JFrog Artifactory). * Experience with network infrastructure management concepts including VLANs, firewall rule management, and storage integration within CI/CD workflows. * Fluent English — written and verbal — required for effective cross-cultural collaboration and technical communication with distributed teams. * Ability and willingness to travel internationally to India 3–4 times per year. Preferred * Background in semiconductor equipment, industrial automation, or embedded systems environments. * Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Podman) in constrained or air-gapped settings. * Familiarity with monitoring, observability, and logging stacks (e.g., ELK, Prometheus/Grafana) in on-premise deployments. * Exposure to security hardening, STIG compliance, or zero-trust network principles in isolated environments. * Experience working in a hardware–software co-development environment where software delivery is tightly coupled to physical system integration. ## Qualifications ### Education: Bachelor's Degree ### Skills ### Cer
