Backend Developer
Description About us Visual Layer, now part of Camtek, is building its AI Software center in Tel Aviv. Visual Layer's core engine understands visual data at scale: it finds duplicates, outliers, mislabels, and anomalies across millions of images without manual tagging. Camtek builds inspection and metrology systems for the semiconductor industry. Together, we are bringing state-of-the-art AI software products into high-volume industrial inspection. The research team is small and senior: PhDs and published researchers working next to fast, production-minded engineers. We build, and we ship. About the Role Visual Layer, part of Camtek, is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to develop scalable AI-powered backend systems for visual data analysis in the semiconductor industry. You will build data pipelines, search services, and APIs that process millions of images, working closely with AI researchers and engineering teams. Why Join Us? Work on cutting-edge AI technologies and large-scale data systems, combining a startup environment with the stability of a global semiconductor company. Add a clearer application call to action. Make the job description more compelling Requirements 5+ years of backend development experience in Python. Strong SQL skills and experience with database optimization. Experience building scalable data processing pipelines. Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes in production. Experience integrating ML/AI models into production systems. Experience developing APIs (REST/gRPC). Experience using AI coding tools such as Cursor or Claude Code. Strong ownership and ability to lead development end-to-end. Advantages: Experience with Vector Databases, embeddings, or vector search. Experience with LLMs, VLMs, or AI agents. Knowledge of FastAPI, Ray, Celery, or distributed systems.
