Senior Backend Engineer- Edge
Description Airobotics is building the next generation of autonomous drone systems, enabling scalable aerial operations for industrial, security, and critical infrastructure environments. We are establishing a new Edge Applications team within our Software R&D department, focused on developing high-performance applications that run directly on drone and edge computing platforms. These applications bridge real-world robotics, autonomy, AI, and mission-critical operational workflows. As a Software Developer on the team, you will design and build software components that operate close to the hardware and real-time systems powering autonomous drones. You will work across embedded edge environments, communication systems, AI pipelines, mission logic and operational tooling. This is a hands-on engineering role with strong impact on product architecture, system capabilities and future platform evolution What We Offer Opportunity to shape a new strategic engineering team from the ground up Work on cutting-edge autonomous aerial systems deployed in real-world operational environments High ownership, technical challenges, and direct impact on product direction Collaborative and multidisciplinary engineering culture Dynamic startup environment with advanced technological challenges Responsibilities Design and develop edge applications running on autonomous drone platforms and edge computing devices Build reliable, scalable, and high-performance software for real-time operational environments Develop integrations between onboard systems, AI modules, sensors, and mission-control platforms Optimize software for constrained compute, network, and power environments Collaborate closely with autonomy, embedded, AI, DevOps, and product teams Participate in architecture discussions and technical decision-making for the new platform Debug and resolve complex system-level and distributed operational issues Contribute to software quality through testing, code reviews, CI/CD, and engineering best practices Requirements B.Sc. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent military/industry experience 5+ years of software development experience Strong proficiency in Python or C++ Experience building distributed systems Familiarity with Linux-based environments Experience with networking, asynchronous systems, or real-time applications Strong problem-solving and debugging skills Ability to work independently in a fast-paced R&D environment Advantage: Experience with robotics, drones, autonomous systems, or edge computing Familiarity with ROS/ROS2 Experience with video streaming, computer vision, or AI inference pipelines Experience with Docker, or containerized edge deployments Knowledge of embedded Linux systems Experience with cloud-edge architectures Military technological unit background
