Senior Python Engineer
Much of what our algorithms do reaches the rest of the company through one Django service. We need someone to own it. That means the data model, the REST API, the contracts other teams rely on, and keeping it fast as it grows. You'll also help turn research code into services we can run in production, and mentor a junior engineer along the way. You'll join the Algo Development team and report to its engineering manager. The role spans senior to staff, and we'll work out the right level with you during the interviews. Responsibilities: Build and scale the Django service. Design and run Django and Django REST Framework services on PostgreSQL. That means data modeling, API design, and keeping the schema and contracts coherent as the API spreads across domains. Make PostgreSQL fast. Read query plans, design indexes, and tune queries and schemas, including time-series work in TimescaleDB and spatial queries in PostGIS. Own authentication. Design and implement OAuth and OIDC, federated single sign-on, token validation, and integration with identity providers. Set up Wagtail from scratch. We've chosen Wagtail as the CMS for content our operators and partners see. You'll build it from the ground up: page models, structured content, media handling, and the editing experience. Bring algorithms into production. Wrap research and algorithm packages in real services, with clear data contracts, model versioning, REST endpoints, and the monitoring needed to run them. Mentor and set patterns. Support a junior Python engineer, run code reviews, and shape the architecture patterns the team will build on. Requirements: A degree in computer science, software engineering, information systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. 7+ years of professional software engineering, mostly in Python, building and running production services. Scripts, notebooks, and internal tools don't count toward this. For the staff end of the range, we'd expect more. Hands-on Django and Django REST Framework experience in production. You've shipped, scaled, and debugged Django services, and you know the hard parts: migrations under load, transaction boundaries, ORM N+1 queries, and custom managers and querysets that hold up under real traffic.
